Scott's Bait & Tackle
Weekly Fishing Bulletin for: August 8, 1997

Fluke fishing this week, when sea conditions were good, turned to the ocean. This weekend has potential: seas ares supposed to be 2-3 ft. Little Egg Tire Reef was a successful fishing spot, as well as the Lumps near the Wreck Buoy. For those who do not go out on the ocean, fluking was still very good in the inland waterway running from Tuckers Island up to Beach Haven. The area in front of Little Sheepshead Creek produced some nice 2-4 pounders.

Weakfish reports were scattered across the bay, with several good ones from up in the Mullica River itself, rather than the mouth. Some were also caught out in front of Little Sheepshead where the fluking was good. We do have Shedder Crabs in Stock for the weekend! For those of you who get up on the web--the shedder crab demo to prepare the crabs as baits is now available in step-by-step live photos!

Scattered Kingfish were reported in the favorite haunts near 134 buoy and the Orange Ball area. No great quantities yet. There were also several Triggerfish caught this week in the bay, again no great quantity or size to them.

A few Blackfish made an appearance around the sod banks opposite the Fishhouse. Greencrabs are the preferred bait.

For those interested in action, most of the local creeks (ie: Big, Roundabout, Motts, Oyster, Little Sheepshead Creek, etc.) have small striper about 12-18", which will hit on shedder crabs or bloodworms. Keepers are still 28", but there are lots of catch & release fish if you just want to have some fun. Plus, a potential catch of white perch while you're at it.

For those of you who want to go--there is a real warm patch of water out on the ocean as of 8/8/97 with good potential for tuna fishing. Russ puts it at 39:20:00 - 73:32:00 Latitude/Longitude, or 26425 43000 Loran coordinates.
