Scott's
Bait & Tackle
Weekly Fishing Bulletin for:
September 11
This big news of the week has nothing
to do with fishing. If you call us on the phone, it is likely that we will
answer it as Scott's Sport Center. Thursday was conversion day, where we
took a lot of the fishing items and packed them up in boxes and put them
in the attic until next spring. Don't worry, the most common fishing items
are still out. We also needed to make space for the Fall Striper goodies,
which still aren't out yet. Fall bow season begins this Saturday in zones
13, 36, 42, and 49. So, it will be possible for us to check in deer on
Saturday the 13. Now that's early.
New fishing news this week is scarce.
The best tidbit of info is that there are still some very nice Weakfish
around. Little Sheepshead Creek was very active with bridge fishermen that
fished there after dark. They found that the most productive lures were
the FinS fish lures with 1/4 ounce lead head jigs. Since the weather was
mostly lousy this week, it made for some quiet fishing in the area of the
Brick pile in Marshelder Channel. Some very nice Weakfish were caught on
baits soaked in Shedder Oil.
A nice batch of 1/2 pound snapper
Bluefish were caught by a surf fishing angler from Pebble Beach today.
Spearing bait on a plastic float as well as casting and retrieving small
thin strips of Mackerel worked well.
Heard another good rumor about some
very nice Blackfish caught by another surf angler fishing at the end of
Great Bay Boulevard or also commonly referred to as the end of Seven Bridges
Road. All I am suggesting here is that there were some Blackfish, in the
five pound range, caught this week. This means Blackfishing may be a good
fishing option if sea conditions prevent anglers from getting out on the
ocean this week to catch some more of those jumbo Fluke.
Striper activity is coming along.
As more and more anglers target this tasty next day sandwich fish, more
and more are caught. Most of the Stripers caught this early in the Fall
are shorts, ranging from 12 to 25". Smaller baits like Bloodworms and live
Bunkers are catching the most fish. Eels are weeding out the shorts, but
can make for a very boring day if no larger size fish are around. Mouth
of the Mullica River, where we normally fish our Weakfish has produced
Weakfish, Stripers and Perch. The best overall location at this point would
be the sod bank opposite Tuckers Island from 120 marker back along the
bank as far as Big Sheepshead Creek.
