Fish Identification Guide
Red, Redfin
Pickerel Esox americanus
Coloration brown with reddish fins.
Adult has vertical bars on the sides. Short, broad snouts. Freshwater fish,
streams, ponds and lakes. Caught on small minnows, crayfish lures, flies,
etc. Smaller pike at 14-15" in length. Not as common in the southern NJ
area as the chain pickerel, and is similar in color with a chunkier body.
