Anchovy Anchoa mitchilli
Bay anchovy. Short head, large
eye, short snout. Silvery iridescent stripe may be faded towards front
of fish. Body greyish-translucent, small dorsal fin set behind the mid-section
of the back. Found in shallow bay areas and creeks. The sample above was
caught in a cast net down on Great bay boulevard. Similar species are striped
anchovy and silver anchovy. Both have longer snouts, the silver anchovy
having a black line above the silver stripe, and the striped anchovy having
