Fish Identification Guide
Striped Blenny
Blenny, Striped 

Chasmodes bosquianus, Family: Blenniidae
Grows to about 3". Elongated shape which tends to make the blenny look like it's all tail. Brown body with paler markings. Irregulary striped sides with dark spots above, through and below. Double dorsal fin, first of which has 12 rays. Pointed nose with teeth in one row. AGGRESSIVE! Handle carefully as they aren't happy about being caught and will try to nip at you. Pretty fish.
Shallow coastal waters, mud, silt, sand in bays. Sometimes caught in crab or minnow traps. Ranges from NY to NE Florida with some sightings as far south as Mexico. Not commonly seen north of Maryland.
