Spiney Dogfish
Shark, Spiny Dogfish 
Squalus acanthias

Color slate gray with pale belly, young with more obvious white spots(as shown). Large eyes  First dorsal fin larger than second. Short spines at the front of each dorsal fin are poisonous, handle with care! Found worldwide, generally around 10 fathoms.  Averages 4-8 pounds.  Eats fish, squid, shrimp, etc.  Can be caught in New Jersey waters during early spring and late fall, preferring the cooler waters.  Again, mackerel chunks are excellent bait. Edible.
