Deer Permit Pricing Adult $28.00 Youth (age 15 prior to Sept. 10) $12.00
The deer management zones listed below all have permit quotas which currently far exceed the hunter demand. Those permits will be available without lottery on a first come, first served basis. In the rare instance that the demand reaches the permit quota for a specific zone and season combination, then those permits will no longer be available for purchase.
Additional special season permits may not be purchased in order to harvest additional antlered deer.
Go to Deer Regulations Sets to determine your zone number and season regulations.
See also License/Permits Section for additional information.
Permits may be purchased at licensed agents or on Fish and Wildlife's Internet license sales site for the following zones: 1-19, 21-31, 34-36, 41-43, 45-51, 55, 63 and 65. See Lottery Permits section below for zones with lower quotas.
Hours of operation and types of payment accepted vary according to license agent.
Bow, muzzleloader and shotgun permits will be available for sale beginning Oct. 10, 2006 and continue until Feb. 11, 2007
Lottery Permit Zones
Zones which have a limited deer permit quota necessitate a lottery. Hunters may apply for a total of four deer permits (two bow, two firearm) through the lottery. Lottery applications may be submitted at license agents or on Fish and Wildlife's Internet license sales site. Two random lotteries will be conducted. The first lottery will randomly select applicants only from the first lottery section of the application. The computer attempts to fill the applicant's first choice zone in the first lottery. If the first choice zone is not longer available, the computer then attempts to fill the second choice zone. The third choice zone is considered only when the first two choices are unavailable. Entering a second or third choice zone on the application is optional. If no zone choice(s) are available the applicant will receive a non-selection notice.
The second lottery will assign deer permits leftover from--and independent of--the first lottery. The method of permit assignment is identical to the first lottery. The applicant pool will include only those who have filed for the second lottery. After conducting both computerized lotteries, permits which remain will be available for purchase over-the-counter at selected Fish and Wildlife offices.
Permits will be available by lottery for the following zones: 37, 38, 56, 57, 58, 59, 61, 64 and 67.
Deadline: Applications must be submitted before midnight on Sept. 10, 2006.
Only ONE application per hunter.
Applicants can edit their zone choices in the lottery by viewing the "Lottery Status" page via Fish and Wildlife's Internet license sales site. Edits must be completed prior to the application deadline. No request for changes will be granted after the application deadline.
Lottery Permit Notification
Late applications will not be accepted.
Once the lottery has been conducted and verified, applicants will receive notification of their permit status via e-mail or postcard. Applicants will select their preferred means of notification at the time of application.
Applicants will also have the ability to retrieve their permit status through the Fish and Wildlife's Internet license sales site.
Winning permit applicants may choose to claim their permit at a license agent or via the internet. A shipping and handling fee of $1.50 plus 2.5% of the transaction is added for those claimed via the internet.
All permits won in the lottery must be claimed before midnight on Sunday, Oct. 8, 2006 or they will be forfeited. No exceptions.
Permits not claimed by the deadline (Oct. 8, 2006) will be considered "unwanted" and will be returned to the lottery pool to be made available for over-the-counter sales of leftover permits.
If you have not received notification by Sept. 28, contact Fish and Wildlife.
For questions concerning the permit process, call the 24-hour automated Permit Hotline: (609) 292-9192.
Over-the-Counter Sale of Leftover Lottery Permits
Beginning at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2006 permits which remain unclaimed will be sold over-the-counter at license agents and at Fish and Wildlife's Internet license sales site.
Leftover permits will be sold on a first come, first served basis.
A list of unclaimed permits will be available on Fish and Wildlife's website: www.njfishandwildlife.com
NOTE: Not all Special Areas will be sold over-the-counter. It is recommended that hunters apply for a permit in the lottery instead of waiting for possible leftover permits.
Special Area Deer Management Zones
Special Areas include federal military installations, certain state and county parks and national wildlife refuges.
Select zones have specific qualifying criteria which hunters must meet before obtaining a permit. Certain zones are not open to the public. It is the hunter's responsibility to ensure property access prior to applying for or purchasing a permit.
