the duck ponds on the way to the Savannah display. |
 |
On
the way to the Savannah display, there are several large cages, as well
as markers along the way to tell you about the trees and vegetation you
are passing. These guys are ruffed lemurs. |
 |
The
Male Jaguar. |
 |
Mrs.
Jaguar--isn't she a dainty lady? |

The
giraffes were all clustered down near their house, along with a pair of
ostriches. |

There are two gazebos along the Savannah walk,
plus benches and distance viewers. |
 |
Zebra--they have two species that I know of, but I didn't note the names. |

 |
There are several species
of Tamarin at the Cape May Zoo. I missed a shot of my favorite, the golden
tamarin. Maybe next time. |
 |
Blacksnake |
| Walking
back from the Savannah, we happened upon one of the little extras that
make each visit different. A black snake had climbed up a tree, and was
proceeding to settle down instead a hole there. The time before, we saw
several turkeys fussing around a male peacock who was invading their territory.
They didn't have much luck chasing him away, until their buddy, an emu(related
to the ostrich but smaller) decided he'd had enough, and joined the skirmish.
The peacock left. |
 |
|
 |
I believe these tiny deer are indonesian--they
were about the size of a dachshund dog. |
 |
Aunt
Kat gives Alex a piggyback ride---he was miraculously
cured of being tired when we reached the playground! |
 |
We
always seem to show up at siesta time--isn't he a cute little kitty? |
 |
During
recent years, the zoo has been able to expand it's grounds. |
(Zoo is FREE--Donations
are always welcome!) The big cats and bears now
have much more room to roam |
 |
The
camel. |
 |
The
llama. |
 |
|
 |
"Memories
of a Resounding Distant Roar will fill our hearts forevermore" |
| The marker in memory of Numar, the zoo's first
lion---I feel privalaged to have heard that roar--there is nothing like
it. |
 |
Alex's
favorite, the park just outside the zoo, with playground. There are also
areas for picnics, a gift shop, and a outdoor luncheonette. |
