Crabbing Report: Went to Cedar Creek this morning with my Son Vinnie. We had hopes of seining some soft shells with the full moon. No only did we get no soft shells, we did not even get a keeper hard crab. We gave up on that and walked over to the bulkhead and dock to see how the 50 or so crabers were doing using bait. The most I saw was 2 crabs in anyones basket and they were all under 5". In watching the people out on the boats I did not see them having any luck. We are going to try for fluke tomorrow on the Raritan.

Crabbing Report: Crabbed the Barnegat Bay, Near Good Luck Point & Toms River from 0700-1100 and caught 117 crabs ranging in size from 5"- 6 1/2". Used Chicken And Bunker and ran completely out of Bait. We had 6 Box nets and three Hand Lines. Winds were Calm and turned to a refreshing on Shore Breeze out of the East at around 0945. Crabbing usually slows down in the Barnegat at around 1000, but today the Catch Continued which was strange?
Bay Water Temp at 78F. Throw Back Ratio was less than 1/1. (Concerned about That for Fall Crabbing) Crabs appeared extremely hungry, even hanging on to the Chicken Bones attached to the hand lines.
Today reminded me of crabbing in the Barnegat Bay in the 1970's & 1980's or recent Fall crabbing trips to the Shrewsbury and Navesink Rivers.
I Would have to admit that Today was an anomaly?

Crabbing Report: Went to pine beach for crabs again and had all the big jimmies we wanted in three hours of incomming tide. Chicken again was the bait of choice on weighted handlines. Try my method and you will not ever use traps again. Crabs reluctant to drop bait when going with the tide not like fighting current when achored in one spot. It's easier netting them because most are closer to the boat. We covered lots of water and action was non-stop sometimes getting triple headers. I have never seen such large females which we released

We caught some nice females but threw them back We crab with hand lines using old blue fish or bunker. We had our 5 year old granddaughter with us for the first time and she caught the biggest it was 6 inches. She learned how to pull the crabs in and even netted some. We had a great time and went home and cooked them and had our family over to enjoy them.L ooking forward to next friday

Crabbing Report: read report of dividing creek crabber here and decided to give it a try. we always make it there a time or 2 every year with good numbers caught. this time was no exception. 3/4 of a bushel from 7 to 2 with just myself and 2 young inexperienced kids. could have lived with less throwbacks but caught a good number of no. 1's with plenty of respectable 2's. take bug spray, greenheads aplenty. with a good deet spray, they will still buzz you but won't bite.

Crabbing Report: Me and my buddy took the kids to Dividing Creek on the 4th after hearing some decent reports recently. Went with 30 Maryland style box traps and rented 2 boats and headed out around 6am. Decided to try Maple pond after some good reports however it was just hitting low tide so we decided to try right outside the mouth of Maple pond with the incoming tide. Hit 7 keepers on the first 15 pulls. Tide came in and we went into the pond just to the left of the pylons in the middle. Set our traps and decided to keep 4 and crab while grabbing a bite to eat. Started pulling keeper after keeper and other than going to pick up our traps, stayed there all day. My buddy and son were hitting them good a little north of us toward the bridge. After all was said and done, finished with 72 total with average size at about 5 1/4" some over 6" Best day I've had at DC since 93. Everyone else out there also seemed to be doing well.

Crabbing Report: Worst day of crabbing ever! Went from Dock rd. to Dock St. to Green St. in Tuckerton. 5 hours of crabbing and only 1 keeper. Ended up going to Skippers on Rte. 72 for a couple dozen and they were a lot of work to eat. They mentioned that even commercial crabbers are stumped as to why there are no crabs. Oh well, guess I'll wait till August and try my luck again!

Crabbing Report: We had a great day a couple weeks ago. We caught over 3 bushels my tips are to leave the chicken outside for days (3) is the most if you leave it outside it will smell more but the crabs like the smell and taste. We were out there for 5 hours the last three we caught nothing in the two hours we caught them all. We went home to cook them and they had soooooo much meat in there claws it wasn't funny our biggest crab was 8 in. Just 1/2 away from the record breaking crab for NJ. My location in the 6th bridge from the welcome to Atlantic City sign try it out it is still loaded.

Crabbing Report: So far this spring the word we've been hearing is that crabs emerged at the beginning of April, but crabbing has been intermitant. Even the commercial crabbers are having difficulty. Fluctuating water temps and spring rains adding freshwater to the creek areas has had an effect. Tip for now will be to do crabbing trips on warmer days after 36-48 hours of no rain.
