Scott's Daily Fishing Reports October 1999

Return to Scott's current Daily Fishing Report
Sunday, October 31, 1999 /\/\/\ 4:30pm
What an interesting few days! The weather was fair, but the fishing was poor, in part due to the massive number of boats out there in the inlet area. The Mica Club tournament finished up with only a few weigh-ins today. Results are posted in the tourny section. Scott is currently at the MICA club attending the awards ceremony & dinner. Then we're off to go trick-or-treating with the kiddys. Hope everyone has a HAPPY HALLOWEEN! Sea Ya~ MizMo

Yawn! I think a lot of anglers agree. Boy, this is another long weekend. These tournaments take a lot out of you. All is going well with the MICA tournament so far. Not a whole lot of weigh-ins this beautiful day. Most of the anglers felt that the fishing conditions were disturbed by to many fast moving boats. There are a lot of stripers around, just not too many were caught after 9:00am this morning. We expected a good bite on the last of the outgoing tide this evening. We will see in the morning.
It was neat this morning. Plenty of anglers geared up for reef and wreck fishing. They knew that the Little Egg Inlet would be a zoo of boats and they were correct. No weakfish reported, but the tog and seabass were plentyful enough to catch for anglers to call it a good bottom fishing day. Sea Ya

E-mail Reports:

Oct 30th:" Capt Glenn Kohler of the Krusher IV reported a catch of over 140 nice sized sea bass, 2 trigger fish, and a blue, wreck fishing . Pics will follow " ~George K

10/30:" Made it out to LE inlet on our boat the "FISH-IT". My wife Lori and I got our first keeper bass. Mine made it just legal, 29", and Lori's was 40". (Not bad for her first one:) We drifted eels. The 40" came 1 hour before high tide and the 29"' about an hour after high tide. It was a zoo. You could walk across the inlet on the boats. There was so much traffic, I'm surprised there was anything caught. Keep a tite line. " ~Tony C.

10-30-99:" HIYA SCOTT and MZ. MO, Took a break from trying for those stripers today and fished the mouth of the Mullica for those white perch. Found a bunch too from the little guys up to solid 2 pounders. They were eating little bits of bloodworm on hi lo rigs. Tasty little critters. Thanks for holding that net for me too, appreciate that! " ~Capt. Chris aboard the "Fishiesue"

10/29/99:" Hello, I fished LBI on friday from 200pm- 800pm. i fished the north end of the island. I caught 2 bass (20",24") one small fluke and a couple of skates. I caught everything on fresh clam, i did not get one hit on fresh bunker. A good day. C-YA!! " ~Nick

10-29-99:" FISHED ON THE CHARTER BOAT SKIRT CHASER FISHED INCOMING WATER OUTSIDE OVERFALLS SHOAL 9 KEEPER 30" TO 39" 1 RUNT 1 BLUEFISH THE BASS ARE MY 10 YR OLD CAUGHT 2 KEEPERS THE SMILE ON HIS FACE IS WHAT FISHING ALL ABOUT KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK GREAT INFO SITE ....TIGHT LINES.. " ~JOHN

10/29:" Fished with Capt. John out of Keyport. As you already know Raritan Bay has had a teriffic run of bass. Well the action was slow, but that's why they call it fishing. Capt. John and crew were great! The NYC skyline is a sight to see! when was the last time that the Capt. has come down and shook everyones hand at the end of the day and thanked you for fishing on his boat. " ~Duke of Oil

Friday, October 29, 1999 /\/\/\ 8:00pm
Is it really October? We all ran around in short sleeve shirts on this picture perfect day. Anglers caught stripers from the Mullica River Bridge to the Little Egg Inlet this fine day. Largest fish was weighed in by George Delaporte and it weighed 31 pounds 7 ounces and was 44" long. There is a second fish in the cooler at home that couldn't be weighed in this evening because he already weighed in his quota of 3 bass for the tournament. Rumor mill has it that that fish is over the thirty pound mark, too. Many anglers have asked where to fish in the Mullica River. If you want to know, then tomorrow take a ride up the river. There are several areas where clumps of boats are working the "hot spots". Eels are still the choice baits. ***Side Note: Out of fresh bunker until tomorrow evening around 6:00pm*** Sea Ya

E-mail Reports:

10/28:"We went for a long ,rough, cold, boat ride yesterday. All the way to the red tower to get nary a nibble. Tried the inlet for stripers after that but didnt suceed. I was so cold i didnt warm up until about 930 last nite !!! I think ill wait for the air temp to be in the 80s again and fish for fluke. " ~Geo K.

Thursday, October 28, 1999 /\/\/\ 9:57pm
Another picture perfect fishing day and there were plenty of stripers caught this afternoon too. Most of the chatter on the VHF radio indicated the best bite at three hours past high tide. Weighed in quite a few fish too with the largest bass being caught by John Amend weighing in at 33 lbs. 8 oz 43".
MICA club tournament is underway. An excellent Captains meeting with a showing of 50 boats brings the first place prize money to $1500.00. All of the money paid in by the anglers will be split up by the anglers in first, second($900.00) and third($600.00) place. Other monies generated by 50/50 and raffles will go toward the food at the club on Sunday, October 31 and a $1000.00 donation to a local family whose young daughter has leukemia. Sea Ya

Wednesday, October 27, 1999 /\/\/\ 6:28pm
Plenty of stripers were weighed in this afternoon. Most of the activity continues to be in the inlet on the outgoing tide. Eels, eels, eels, that is what is catching the best. We just received another shipment of fresh bunker for those anglers who want to try to anchor near the white water or anchor in the ocean end of Grassy Channel. That's where the bunker has been working the best. Sea Ya

E-mail Reports:

10/26:" The water was rough yesterday but the hits were on. We hooked up by Sheepshead on the the outgoing tide. Good Luck" ~Terry

Oct. 26, 1999:" Not much of a fish catching report, but I took my 4 year old Tog fishing on Monday along the Old Coast Guard Station banks. We only caught 2 short Tog, but my son helped reel them in and pushed them back into the water. The snapper blues were pushing the minnows right up on the shore and the whole marsh and fishing experience were memorable for the 2 of us. I especially would like to thank you (Scott) for taking the time at your tackle shop to take us out back and show my son the buckets of eels, crabs and live bunker tanks during your busy work day. I am always glad to give you my business and thank you and your wife (MizMo) for maintaining the most up to date fishing/hunting web site I know of. " ~Kevin Schick

10 -25 - 99:" Scott, Went to my old honey pot last night,(A.C.Area) A place I have not been for a while. It was crawling with so called 15 year veterans. As fate would have it, I watched short after short get hooked up on bombers with treble hooks, resulting in bleeding all over the place, before being KICKED back in! So much for catch and release The result to end my night in disgust, was to watch a guy in slacks,an dress overcoat& dress shoes catch a 14" linesider. By the time I explained the fishing laws and tried to talk this well educated man into throwing it back, it had died.No Fish & Game in sight.
SCORE: IDIOTS 14

Tuesday, October 26, 1999 /\/\/\ 6:58pm
The further along the day went, the better the fishing and the fishing conditions. First thing this morning, the lagoons had a light ripple, but the ocean was a roaring rough no go fishing situation. The Inlet and bay produced plenty of stripers this afternoon. Largest fish of the day was caught by John Botteri. His fish weighed 37 pounds 12 ounces and was 47" long.
Several anglers are anxious to get back out in front of Wreck Inlet and see if the weakfish are still there. There were several reports of dog sharks around the wrecks, so it's pretty close to having the weakfish leave and the Fall ocean jigging stripers show up. Sea Ya

E-mail Reports:

10/22 & 10/23:" Drifted eels in the inlet from 8 until 1 on Friday, had 1 fish on for a few minutes and got off. The guy next to me (Bill) in the marina had 3 nice stripers 15.1, 15.2 and 18 lbs. " ~Scott B.

Monday, October 25, 1999 /\/\/\ 6:50pm
Missed the report last night. Took off a little early to drop off the results of the Redman Lodge Striper Tourney down at the awards ceremony at the American Legion hall and never came home. They had some great food and a good crowd telling fish stories that made it fun evening to hang out.
Big striper of the day was caught by Mike Sledden in the middle of the "parking lot", which means right in the middle of all of the boats in the Little Egg Inlet. His fish weighed an impressive 42 pounds 2 ounces and was 46 1/2" long. There was plenty of activity in the inlet all day long. I don't believe that there was any catching blitz, but a light steady pick. Most reported fish caught in one boat last night was five, which means if you are there at the right time and right place, you will catch them. Sea Ya

Saturday, October 23, 1999 /\/\/\ 7:00pm

Number one request today was from anglers participating in the Redmen's Striper Tournament, wanting to know the stats on the weigh-ins so far. We don't know yet---the split port between here and Chestnut Neck leaves us unable to calculate who is 1st, 2nd, etc. We were unable to hook up with the right person at Chestnut Neck this afternoon, but we may hear from her tomorrow. We will post results as soon as we can.

Very difficult fishing conditions in the inlet today. Several anglers were heard over the radio early this afternoon, saying that they were going to anchor up and rest for awhile and the drifts were too fast. Even so, we did weigh in several nice stripers. Heaviest striper of the day was also the heaviest so far weighed in for the Redmens tournament at our half of the port, at 32.9 lbs.

Sea Ya

E-mail Reports:

10/18,10/19,10/22:"I am not much when it comes to writing, so I will make it short. While out on the "Snaglepuss" out of Tuckerton Beach, we did great all week with the sea bass fishing by the brickpile. Nice size fish only a few throw backs. have fun fishing people." ~Tony

Friday, October 22, 1999 /\/\/\ 7:08pm
We weighed in over twenty five stripers this afternoon with the largest striper weighing exactly thirty two pounds. The Redman tourny now has multiple weigh-in stations and I am unable to tally the results and give you stats on who is in first place or even the largest fish.
Bass fishing is the highlight of the fishing scene at the moment. It's what's hot and that is what fish most anglers are trying to catch, other news is scarce.
I have heard a few good wreck fishing stories by anglers who are fishing for tog and seabass from the headboats out of Barnegat Light. If you are thinking of taking a trip, now is a good time.
There were a few deer checked in, so check out the hunting page as well, if it interests you. Sea Ya

E-mail Reports:

10/22/99:"Got a 22.5 lb striper today, 40 inches long. Got him in the LE inlet area in only 10 feet of water. The best part was that it was a used, recycled eel that I had used on a previous day and put back into the bucket. " ~Ralph Y.

Thursday, October 21, 1999 /\/\/\ 7:25pm
Another one of those "on" days...a lot of chatter on the VHF radio all day about anglers catching one, two, three bass. Not too many weigh-ins though. Most of the fish that I heard caught weren't much more then keepers.
Other chatter indicated that there were still a few pods of weakfish out on the ocean too. Remember, not too far off of the beach. Last week all of the activity was in the eighteen to twenty feet of water depth.

Clarification: Whirlpool Point is to the right as you come out of Little Sheepshead Creek facing the Fish Factory. The last cedar tree markers with the double red triangles and green squares from Big Creek out to the Fish Factory are right next to Whirlpool Point.

Wednesday, October 20, 1999 /\/\/\ 6:45pm
Damp, rainy, wet day...only the hardcore anglers worked the inlet this afternoon. With the Redman Tourney starting Friday, they are getting pretty tight lipped about their catches. There have been some real nice bass caught in the Great Bay at Whirlpool Point and in the rip in front at Hatfield Point at the beginning of the falling tide. I don't know of any whopper tournament winning fish, but there were plenty of keepers. Sea Ya

E-mail Reports:

10\20\99:" hey scott it may have been wet and rainy but I managed a beauty of 38 1\2 inches 20 lbs 2 oz weighed in at blackwater sports center in vineland fish was caught at corson's inlet on a live eel. tight lines " ~john franchetta

10/16-10/17:" Hey Scott, went to the Wilmington Canyon Saturday. Left at 5:30 pm, anchored up at 10:00pm, had the first fish on in ten minutes. Non-stop action till 4;00 am, limited out on yellow fin 18 total, plus 6 longfin and a mako 135lbs. They said the wind was going to come on, a lot of boats stayed home or left early. I saw six boats total, the Miss Barnegat Light and the Doris May were there too. Good nite and nice ocean. Cya later " ~Big Fish

10/16/99:" Delaware Bay striper fishing! Sat. night trip with Capt. Steve from Brickyard Charters chunking fresh bunker we managed to boat 7 keepers 34" to 48" largest at 32 lbs a couple of weaks, croakers and blues calm foggy night good fishing! 10/16/99:" 22whaler, fished 10mi.,off (wreck),with two of my friends and it was a great day. caught about 15 trigger fish real big with several double headers. also about 15 sea bass with one that we weighed that was 6.75lbs.. left @ 6:30 and was back by 1:00..... only 1 tog 13" thru back. lots of hits.... also like to thank scott for info on seabass and tog in little sheepshead crk last week. " ~Paul R.

Tuesday, October 19, 1999 /\/\/\ 6:40pm
Not to much action this morning in the Little Egg Inlet on the outgoing tide...the stripers just weren't biting. Afternoon anglers had a much more productive fishing experience. Largest striper weighed in this afternoon was caught by Jack Snyder and his fish weighed 26+ pounds and was 44" in length.
Other good fishing includes seabass on the wrecks and some tautog along the banks around the fish factory.
Some anglers are asking questions about the Fall herring run that occurs in the mouth of the Mullica River. A few herring have been caught already, it's just the beginning of run. Sea Ya

Monday, October 18, 1999 /\/\/\ 6:37pm
The wind was really blowing things around the yard all day. Most boaters stayed at the dock. When the wind let up a little while ago, a few made their way out to the inlet in search of stripers. One angler reported catching a few tautog anchored along the banks near the fish factory, but even he said the fishing was slow and he didn't catch as many tog as his last few trips. Sea Ya

Sunday, October 17, 1999 /\/\/\ 5:00pm
The word of the day is WET. The fog was dangerously thick this morning and the evening finished off with a steady rain. There was the occasional striper caught around the Little Egg Inlet. Largest Bass was caught by John Andriulli at 22 lbs. 4 oz 39". There was still some good fishing out there even though the weather didn't cooperate. Sea Ya

E-mail Reports:

10-16-99:" Last Official Kokomo Report! " ~Capt. Paul
We're gonna miss ya, Paul...the crew & Scott's B&T

10-16-99:" hi scott fished early this morning went out at 230 action started for me about 330 am the stripers were chewing fished whirlpool point had four fish all over twenty pounds no need to go to the inlet. cya " ~Big Fish

10-15-99:" fished on the Becky Sue sunny vry lt wind got to litle egg inlet around 10a "bird city" the entire inlet full of snapper blues snagged plenty kept 2 for a live line.had two nice runs maybe big blues maybe stripers one 26" 7# weak hit live eel "was delicious" loads of fun&fish bite was good all day but better on outgoing tide. " Steve

Saturday, October 16, 1999 /\/\/\ 7:45pm
Even if a striper didn't end up on the deck of your boat, you just have to admit that this was a superb fall fishing day. Largest striper weighed in this afternoon was caught by John K. and it was a little of over twenty three pounds. Most of the action was late in the afternoon and into dark.
Several anglers report nice trips out on the ocean wrecks for tautog and seabass. Other anglers continue to find a few weakfish on the ocean too down near Wreck Inlet and up between the red and white towers. It was a good fishing day. Sea Ya

Friday, October 15, 1999 /\/\/\ 8:17pm
Stripers were the fish of the evening. There was a slow pick most of the morning and afternoon, but around 4:00 things started to get a little busy in the Little Egg Inlet. Some of the fish were caught in the area of the 'F' and 'G' buoys and others were caught around the 120 marker buoy. Boaters drifting through the inlets are having their best success catching stripers on live eels. The only fish caught on chunk bunker baits, that I have heard, are some real nice thirty to forty pound bass caught by surf anglers on Long beach Island this week. Sea Ya

E-mail Reports:

10/12/99:" Boat:Denise Marie

Big mistake-Things turned around at about 9:15 - Caught 15 in a row, mostly on live squid(all around the boat). Would have maxed out by 11:00pm if we didn't lose the first 3 fish. We made up for it at the 3:30am - 4:30am bite. Left the canyon by 6:00am - got back at about 11:10am. 18 Yellowfins, Great night at the Hudson Canyon!

10/13/99:"Hello, I fished the north end of LBI today for a couple of hours. I caught three FLUKE! where were they last week!? two of them were keepers (16",17"). oh well, thats fishin'. Yes I did throw them back. I also got some small blues. I was using chunks of herring on a Hi-Lo rig.C-YA! " ~Nick

Thursday, October 14, 1999 /\/\/\ 6:50pm
Wow, that sure was some low tide we had this morning. The North West 30-40mph winds blew the water right out of the bay. Boaters were wise to stay home. Around 4:00 in the afternoon, there was a lone angler who reported calm enough fishing conditions to catch a bass between a lot of little bluefish. Thanks Adam for that report. Sea Ya

Wednesday, October 13, 1999 /\/\/\ 7:03pm
"Should have been here yesterday!" was the quote of the day. We waited, waited and waited for the striper bite in the Little Egg Inlet to happen and it just never did. There were a few bass caught this afternoon, but not enough to get excited about.
Target the weakfish tomorrow, and keep an ear to the VHF radio to see if there is a bite happening in the Inlet. Between the Southern most towers on Long Beach Island and in front of Wreck Inlet, in about eighteen feet of water anglers continue to catch nice weakfish on little bunker and squid strips. Sea Ya

E-mail Reports:

10/12/99:" Good evening, this morning i fished LBI at first light. the bait were everwhere, loads of rainfish and a few baby bunker. But the bass or blues were no where to be found. Threw plugs all morning and nothing. I did pick up a searobin and a 15" throwback fluke on bunker chunk. I then went upto Barnegat Light and got into small snappers and a lot of herring, they would hit anything. i did see one nice weakfish caught( 4lbs). I kept some of the herring for bait this week. The herring were great to catch on light tackle, i never knew they were aggressive like that. C-YA!! " ~ Nick

10-12-99:" Scott, what a bite in the inlet at 1:30 till 3:00. Man, had six bass up to 28 lbs. Limited out, three of us. cya, thanks for the great site" ~Big Fish

10-10-99:" Fished a bridge in O.C. mon. nite and had 4 run-offs before i set the hook in a 25" striper, saw several keepers landed. looks like another great striper season is getting started. we saw some really big taug feeding on the mussels on thepilings at slack tide right on the surface under the bridge lights. they were huge." ~Rick

10/9/99:" Boat fished on: Amy Beth 35 Maine Coaster
Went offshore on Sat. 10/9/99, Had our butts kicked by a nasty ocean. The trip produced a nice catch at the Hudson. Total was 9 Long fin to 45 lbs., trolling. Seven dolphin to 5 lbs. 1 75 lb. Yellow Fin on chunk baits. Lots of pain in the butt Blue sharks in the slick.
Regards,
" ~Capt.Ken Probst

Tuesday, October 12, 1999 /\/\/\ 7:02pm
Can't believe it's true, but oh well...anglers picked at fluke both in the inlet and on the ocean. They were trying to catch weakfish and stripers, but the fluke took the baits. By what I heard on the radio they were of a very nice size and very difficult to throw back now that the season is closed.
On a lighter note and good news, the anglers that were catching those fluke on the ocean in eighteen to twenty two feet of water between the southern most water towers on Long Beach Island caught their fair share of three to four pound weakfish on baby bunker. I also had a report that anglers fishing up near the Barnegat Inlet caught them as well, with some of the weakfish pushing the scale over five pounds.
Back in Little Egg Inlet, anglers had a terrific day on stripers. The best period of catching was between 1:00 and 3:00 in the afternoon. The striper activity didn't match the theory of one hour later then yesterday. I haven't been able to figure any pattern of just when the stripers are going on the feed. Tomorrow should be another great fishing day. Sea Ya

10/11:"Scott,went to the inlet late today and had 7 bass too 30 lbs. There were 3 of us on the boat. All the fish were caught on eels. That's it for now! " ~ Shakey; Beach Haven

10/11:" Took a late trip out to little egg inlet outgoing tide and got a 29 inch striper not bad for my first trip of the season. " ~Scott (from aol)

About an hour ago, MizMo weighed in an eighteen and 20 pound striper. This pair of bass were caught on the outgoing tide on live eels in the Little Egg Inlet area. You just have to put the time to get a couple of nice fish like these.
It was the last day of fluke season and there weren't any takers of the rough ocean to try to put the last fluke fillet of the season in the frying pan. Sea Ya

Sunday, October 10, 1999 /\/\/\ 6:35pm
Perfect striper fishing weather with a light rain and zero wind for most of the day. Listening to the VHF radio, you could get the idea that there was a little activity in the Little Egg Inlet area as anglers were discussing the ones that got away. There were no weigh-ins this afternoon, so there wasn't anything too good going on. Sea Ya

E-mail Reports:

10-10-99:"Bill Scott, This afternoon, Meg and I dragged eels around the inlet and and landed two keepers aboard our boat Lady June II, 38" and 34" respectively. Thanks for a great web site. " ~Bill

Saturday, October 9, 1999 /\/\/\ 5:39pm
Largest striper weighed in this afternoon was by Ron Eppolite. His fish weighed fifteen pounds five ounces and was thirty six inches long. He caught it right along the 120 marker buoy on a live eel.
Todays largest weakfish was weighed in by Denny Lauer. He said the bay was alive with weakfish and no matter what type or color plastic worm he threw at them, the weakfish just gobbled them up. His fish was three pounds thirteen ounces, twenty two inches long. A good weakfish for this time of the year. He just kept following a flock of working birds around the bay. Sea Ya

Saturday, October 9, 1999 /\/\/\ 6:29am
I skipped the Friday night report. The store was so busy on Friday, that the evening flew by. We were all busy trying to get stocked up and prepped for the Saturday morning rush. I just ran out of energy and decided to skip it. So here is the Friday report...Bass fishing is ON. After the sun came up in the morning, a bass blitz occurred around the Little Egg Inlet area as well along the banks from Little Sheepshead to the Coast Guard Station. Ten, twelve and fifteen pound Stripers made there way to the catch page and the dinner table yesterday. Sea Ya

Thursday, October 7, 1999 /\/\/\ 7:04pm
Just heard one guy exclaim that he just lost the largest striper he ever saw and he lost it at the boat while trying to net it. So, there are good size fish out there. I suppose that he was somewhere out near the Little Egg Inlet.
Wind this morning didn't allow anglers to fish on the ocean this morning. There is only a few days left in the fluke season, so I hope we can get outside for a few more chances.
Sea Ya

Wednesday, October 6, 1999 /\/\/\ 6:54pm
Ocean going boating anglers found weakfish and even a few fluke this morning. Talk on the VHF radio indicated that the hot spot was off of the white tower on the Southern most end of Long Beach Island in the forty five to sixty feet of water depth.
Striper activity continues in the area of the 120 Marker Buoy on the falling tide. Most of the activity of catching fish or just run-offs is occurring during the night. Late last week when the falling tide and the sunrise coincided, there was good morning activity for catching stripers on eels.

10/2:"Hi guys!! I was fishing is Seaside Heights on Saturday from the Casino fishing pier. I frequent the Outer Banks in North Carolina and was looking forward to hitting the pier in my home state. Its was a beautiful day and there wasn't much happening except for sea robins and little snapper blues. Much to my disgust most of the people that appeared to be "regulars" of the pier had been catching nothing but sea robins and were taking it out on the sea robins. Rather than taking the fish off the hook and releasing them they would kick the fish around , slam it on the dock , anything to get their kicks. This makes me sick!! These guys show up with all the fancy gear, act like big shot fishermen when they are nothing but a bunch of jerks!! There is no need to treat these animals this way. I can understand their frustration with losing their bait every time they cast but they should just pack it up and head home and fish another day. I quite frankly enjoy catching big robins on ultra light gear. While visiting the outer banks I had wished there were piers in Jersey to fish from. After seeing that disgusting display on Saturday I am sorry to say I am glad there aren't a lot of piers around here!!! I really wish I could do something about it, it makes me sick!!! Just wanted to get your take on this.Feel free to post this if you like...
Thanks

10/2-10/3:" Wreckless was one of the 70 or more boats fishing the flats and the notch of the Wilmington Canyon, on board were Chuck Huff, Dennis DeMotts, Jim and Chris Witcyk. It blew really hard all night and by daybreak there was hardly anyone left. Most boats seemed to catch a few and then just head home. Morning bite was red hot with tuna practically taking chunks from your hand. We came back with 7 up to 80lbs, the bigger fish were in the morning. Water temp was 80.5, about 6 degrees warmer than just inside. On the way out we heard that daytime chunking produced terrific results with boats limiting out at the notch and flats. Brrrr...cooler air and a very damp day...Striper anglers still fished...heard some chatter of run-offs, but no catches. Ocean was a no go...just a little too rough. Not a lot to report this evening, anglers aren't sneaking out of work as much this time of year. They are saving those days for when the striper fishing gets hot.

More rain! Did we really ask for this? I guess it's good in a way, except for the folks that are still trying to dry out their furniture.
Fishing action was quiet this afternoon, mostly because nobody went fishing. Eels surely are going out of the store at a fast rate. Just a moment ago I heard an angler on the radio talk about making another drift, but no action just yet. There out there trying. Think stripers!

It was the call of the anglers..."Get up to the red and white tower and catch these croakers." There were croakers in forty five to sixty feet of water along the beach this morning. Afternoon breeziness forced most anglers off of the ocean. I even heard one angler catch a few fluke too, but he didn't indicate his whereabouts.
The catch page came alive again this weekend. Some nice pictures of stripers and weakfish as well as a few deer on the hunting page; a six and an eight point buck. Sea Ya

So we drug some clams strips near the 126 marker from the shallower water down to the 35 ft. level or so and did real well with 17-20" weakfish and some real nice kingfish, took some nice blowfish as well. The action was over when the tide stopped running out however.
I also hit something hard with my prop in the deeper water of the Creek between the little launching beach and the big concrete guy wire block near the end of Playhouse Drive Sunday morning. Put a big nick in my prop. Beware! Never had a problem there before and the tide was not that low.

We are starting to here more and more about stripers each day. We weighed in one bass last night and two more bass this afternoon. Largest striper was just under seventeen pounds. Little Egg Inlet around the 'G' buoy and the 120 marker is the place to be.
Anglers found weakfish and croakers in 60 feet of water in front of the white tower on the Southern tip of Long Beach Island. The largest weakfish weighed in was just under five pounds. Sea Ya

If you are hitting this page tonight to find clues as to what is going to be the best fishing option for tomorrow, check the weekly bulletin for my best suggestions.
Tons of working birds on the Great Bay tonight. They were working on schools of small bluefish. Anglers had a tough time locating the weakfish that they found between Big Creek and the clam stakes on the North West side of the fish factory last night. I heard some chatter around 6:00pm in front of Oyster Creek and Motts Creek area. Those anglers could have been working on the small blues too, but it sounded like they had weakfish mixed in.
Another Striper was weighed in this evening from the 120 marker buoy area on live eels. My best guess that it was caught about 6:00pm too. Sea Ya
